Social Media Marketing for Business - How Babble Makes You Invisible

As part of their Social Media Marketing efforts, clients often ask us how often they should post to Twitter, Facebook, or to their business blog.
The answer we give them: only when you have something important to say that will help people.
If that means once per month, so be it. If that means once per hour, go for it.
Some people will argue and say that Social Media is all about having conversations, and in real life, we sometimes say silly things that don't really help anyone.
Very true, however, in business, the rules are different. If you're trying to promote your business to someone new on the street, you don't walk up to them and babble about random thoughts, or talk about what you did last night.
If you spend any time on twitter, you'll see people who think they're cleverly promoting their business by constantly posting random thoughts or article links. When you see the same person posting constantly, you probably do one of 2 things:
- Dismiss it as worthless babble and stop paying attention to anything their saying
- Unfollow that person so you'll never have to see anything they post again
Either way, that person has just become invisible to you.
Even if you DO have something important to say, posting too frequently is dangerous.
If you're thinking of using Twitter or any other site for Social Media Marketing purposes, don't babble... or risk becoming invisible.
