The Weekly Wrap Up- Content Marketing Strategy

 
So boys and girls, what have we learned this week?  Well, many things, I'm sure.  But, specifically, what have we learned about content marketing?   Let's talk about content marketing strategy.  What I have learned is that many people do not have one.  These people are sad and lonely, waiting for someone to come to their websites, waiting for people to care about them.  Their wait, it will be a long one.

The other thing I learned is that those who do have a good content marketing strategy are doing quite well, thank you.  This is because savvy Internet marketers realize the value in developing a plan for their content that includes:

            1. Writing well about interesting topics related to their field.

            2. Optimizing that content for the search engines.

            3. Distributing their content far and wide through a variety of vehicles.

Oh, you say, that sounds simple enough!  Well, before you get too cocky, you would do well to learn some tips from the pros.  One key point to remember is that your content (and the way it is distributed) needs to be highly targeted.  Check out Chris Guillebeau's blog Why Preaching to the Choir is a Good Thing.  You may be panhandling and not even know it.

And while you're at it, don't forget that your content wants to be read.  Well, it does if it's any good.  Bad content hides in shame.  So, introduce your awesome content to some friends.  An overview of social media and content marketing can be found in Content Marketing Strategy with a Side of Social.  There's nothing quite like having your content spread around through word-of-mouth.  It is one of the best ways to get online exposure.
