5 Ways To Take Your Blog Content To The Next Level

blog content

Your blog is meant to establish you as a thought leader, so your content should be sharp, engaging, and useful, right? Sometimes it’s easy to get stuck in a blogging rut, either blogging too much about one topic or not focusing at all.  Here are five ways to take your blog content to the next level and be a thought leader in your field:

  1. Think like a journalist.  Because of my journalism background, I always fall back on it when I need to punch up my blog.  Find a story by picking a “beat” – an area of expertise you want to focus on, then research and follow it.  Attend conferences; look for the story; quote experts in the field.
  2. Think like a Cosmopolitan editor.  If you’ve been by a newsstand recently, you’ll notice that Cosmopolitan always has “top” lists: 5 Ways to Get His Attention, 10 Top Holiday Beauty Tips.  They’re eye-catching, easy to read, and full of useful information.  Even if you’re not blogging about mascara, you can still use “top” lists to generate quality blog content.
  3. Test out audio/video posts.  Great content can be had using multimedia.  For example, if your business is about fashion, do a video post demonstrating clothing repair techniques.  If you’re an IT business, you can post a video explaining how to install antivirus software or remove widgets from a computer.
  4. Offer advice.  You don’t have to be Dear Abby, but think of things your customers struggle with on a daily basis.  Offer a way to solve these problems without mentioning your product or service directly.  Tutorials end up being a high source of traffic, and they are also very linkable!
  5. Provide resources.  Mine your Bookmarks folder, and you’ll probably come up with a host of links you can offer to your readers with short paragraphs on what they can expect when they click.

Your blog says a lot about you, and you want your blog content to say, “I know what I’m talking about. “  Provide interesting, compelling content to your readers, and they’ll not only come back but link to you and buy from you.
