Step 5: Revise, Revise, Revise!

Now that you’ve finished writing those first few articles, you’re probably just dying to put them live on your site, sit back and wait for those hoards of people to come and start eagerly reading all your brilliant work – perhaps crying, laughing, and screaming with powerful emotions at the sheer genius of your work.

Take Some Good Advice…
Well, not to burst your bubble, but if you’re like most humans, you probably aren’t quite as perfect as you think. Obviously, you should look for those obvious spelling and grammar issues. However, revising your work should go way beyond that. Content revision is all about looking for previously unseen opportunities to improve the quality of your content. Where can you include a powerful quote from a reputable source? Where can you throw in a funny personal story that people will relate to? How can you include a reference to a recent event that is sure to evoke emotion? Rinse, Repeat
You get the idea. Just when you think your content cant get any better, just give it one more final read over. You’ll be amazed to find that every time you do this, you improve it even more. Obviously at some point, you have to just let it go, but it’s worth noting that it can ALWAYS get better.

In fact, just when YOU’RE done revising your work, now it’s time to give someone else a crack at it. Send it to a friend to give a quick read over. Unless your friend happens to be a professional writer or editor, with a lot of spare time, and is willing to critique all your work in detail, you’ll probably be happy just to get a few basic thoughts from them on your work. These few thoughts, however, can be invaluable since they’re coming from an outside, fresh perspective.
