Remember, It's Always Nice to Share

You've put the final period on this week's article and uploaded it.

You've put your best work into it, telling why the company is just what everybody needs.

And you're proud of that article. You call your mom, who tells all her friends that her little girl is a writer.

Then it comes time. You post the article and there it sits. It sits there a few days and then a few weeks. Nobody comments or buzzes it up and after a little while, it just becomes buried in the Internet with the millions of other articles, just like yours.

That's because nobody knows to read it, and it just doesn't get looked at after a while. Is this benefitting your employer?

Content is king, this is true. But the best content in the world is a weak ruler indeed if nobody knows it's there.

Companies who want their articles to be noticed by the masses need to help readers help them get the word out there. The articles that get read, commented on and passed along to others are the ones that get the buzz.

  • It's nice to share. That means giving readers a way to share it with other readers. Include a share box under every article or video that allows readers to post a link to their Facebook, Twitter, You Tube or even personal blogs.
  • Open the article up for comments. Depending on the website, you may or may not want to monitor those comments, but getting a conversation going is one way to get more people to read your message.
  • Don't make people "join" your site to comment. If they like your site, they'll join it anyway, and readers don't like joining every website where they want to make comments. In fact, most people will decide not to comment if they have to join your site, and you'll end up missing some valuable feedback.
  • Give them a way to subscribe by RSS feed. That means every time there is a new article, they'll get a copy of it. The more articles go out means the more that get shared, and that means more people will be reading your content.

It's all about buzz and word of mouth when it comes to what articles are getting read the most on the Internet. Provide compelling content and easy ways to share it with the masses and readers will return to your website again and again when they are seeking information about the products you sell.
