Social Media Marketing - Can You Digg It?

When wa
s the last time you went Digging?
In all of the hoopla over Twittering, many people are forgetting that there are other very good methods for social media marketing for their companies and themselves. The great thing is, while Twitter gets the buzz, sites like digg.com allow you to do more by posting more than 140 characters at a time.
And while celebrities like Ashton Kutcher are Tweeting every time they tie their shoes, social media marketing can be even more effective on many other websites -- and unfortunately, many people are forgetting those sites exist.
If you've never used Digg before, it's time to start. It's easy, quick and works very well to get your message out there. Internet users discover articles, videos and more that they like or find useful and submit the links to digg.com. It automatically goes into a "Upcoming Stories" link, where thousands of other users go to look every day.
If they click your link and like it, they click a button to "Digg It." As more users "Digg" your link, it grows in popularity and other users see the link. If enough users like your link, it ends up on the cover page of Digg.
Now, here's where you come in as a social media marketing professional. Do you have a new blog entry on your site? Submit it to digg.com! There's many ways to do it. The obvious way is to copy and paste the link to the site you like, and then go to digg.com, sign in or register, and enter it.
You may also be able to click on a "digg it" link that's included on the website you like. For example, many sites, including the blog entries here at interactmedia.com, have links that allow you to share them with other social media websites. That's a great service to provide with your own blogs, because you make it easier for readers to share them and spread the word about your company.
And of course, there's nothing wrong with clicking the link on your own blog entry and submitting it to Digg yourself, now is there? So out of curiosity and because I really believe people out there would want more chances to see my latest blog about Twitter, I clicked the Digg link myself.
This takes you to Digg, where, if you don't have your own account, you can register or log in through Facebook. As someone active in social media marketing, you should have as many accounts on as many sites as you can -- including Digg.
Of course, once you're logged on to Digg, it's easy to create a link to the article you want to promote. it only took about a minute to create this link back to my blog - http://digg.com/business_finance/Extra_Extra_Tweet_All_About_It.
Pretty cool, huh?
So with just a little bit of effort, I've marketed my own blog, led other readers to Interact Media, and hopefully, lots of other people will "Digg" us too!
